Meeting Opening

Hello, my name is ________________; I am a [recovering] sex addict. Welcome to the New Beginnings meeting of Sex Addicts Anonymous.

We are a fellowship of men and women who share our experience, strength, and hope with each other that we may solve our common problem and help others to recover from their sexual addictions. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop compulsive sexual behavior. There are no dues or fees for membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. We are not allied with any organization. We do not wish to engage in any controversy, endorse nor oppose any causes. There is no organizational affiliation between Alcoholics Anonymous and our fellowship, but we are based on the principles of AA. Our goal is to stay sexually healthy and help other addicts achieve freedom from compulsive sexual behavior.

Our enemies are isolation and shame. We encourage you to use meetings, sponsorship, and the telephone to decrease their power. We urge no sexual contact between members of this group. This group is not a place to meet sexual partners.

Participants are encouraged to stay on the line after the formal closing to ask questions, obtain the phone list or engage in casual conversation.

Is there anyone on the line that has never before attended an SAA meeting ? (If a newcomer is present, read "To The Newcomer.")

Let us now take a moment of silent meditation for the addict who still suffers, both in and out of this room, followed by the Serenity Prayer.

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Will each of you please introduce yourself by your first name and share a couple of feeling words if you wish…
